Bigfoot lives

This is a poster I did for my folk's shop near Mt. St. Helens, where Bigfoot has apparently been sighted several times. In fact, the shop even has a display of several Bigfoot footprint 'castings'.
You can see more about it here.
And a map with directions and phone number here.
You can camp out on the property and if you register the day before, do a glorious day hike up Mt. St. Helens and sit on the rim of the volcano. It's amazing. You can get directions to the trail and other info at the shop. Blair and Joyce Barner at North Fork Survivors have all the good stories and love company. So stop by for a visit if you're in the area!

Ebbs and flows of business

Our struggling economy has been in the forefront of the news and everyone's minds. Here's hoping things can start turning around to the positive on a regular basis!

Raul Castro

I did this illustration for Associated Press as well- it was foreseen that Raul would be the likely candidate to his brother Fidel. Many are hoping for a more democratic leadership. What a year 2008 has been so far!

With Castro stepping down, many wonder how that will impact Cuba. Here's an illustration I had done of him for the Associated Press.

Strawberry fields

With all the shootings in schools across our nations and the tough state of our U.S. economy,
I propose a trip to Strawberry Fields. Enter here for a little escapism and joy today.

digital painting

Here are a couple of digitally painted portraits I did for a client recently. The link to the technique I used is here- and if some things are not clear I am more than happy to explain.

More sketches

Just having fun, sketching loose and spontaneous. Happy Valentine's Day!

A full moon

Sometimes you do a piece and it just hits. This one was for a story about sleepless nights for new parents- most won't see an eight-hour sleep cycle for a few years. Call it tough love!

Rosa Parks, Black history

On December 1, 1955 Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus and move to the back which led to a protest and became history in the civil rights movement. As we move today toward ever more inclusive and progressive thinking- Obama and Clinton running for president- these historic turns are reminders of past struggles to current gains.

Trials and tribulations

Today's NYT headlines that detainees being heldat Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for association with 9/11 could be up for the death penalty under the oft-questioned tribunal system. I have been present as courtroom artist at some of the tribunals-a slideshow of my experience outside of court was created and posted on Associated Press's ASAP a couple of years ago. You can see it here:

Importance of education

Today's NYT has an article about a Jewish principal improbably brought into a Bronx school that was deemed failing and violent. He has turned it around; read about it by cutting and pasting this link:

I had done this piece about the importance of education, and to those who have chosen to teach and love it, you have my great
respect and appreciation.

Spaced out

Yesterday got away from me, and I did not get a chance to upload my daily missive. So.. here's an homage to being spaced out-
a piece I did for Wizards of the Coast, Magic gaming card entitled 'Accerate Conflict'. Doing a variety of illustrative topics is pure joy. I'll dig up some Harry Potter projects and post those later.

Being open

This is a recently finished pc focusing on the meaning of Lent, or more specifically, on being willing to look hard at yourself by
giving up something you love for 40 days. I am not Catholic, but do believe in the idea of being open and willing to change, or better oneself- whether in a spiritual manner, or physically, or in laying the ego on the table and looking in the mirror.

Football feast

This was an illustration I did about football during Thanksgiving. With the Superbowl on Sunday football is indeed on the mind. And the ads... those ads! Have a good weekend and I'll be back Monday.
